The short version

A cookie is a tiny note your browser keeps for us between page loads. We only set what's needed to run the site and to remember your preferences. We don't use cookies for advertising and we don't track you across other sites.

What we set

Signed-in session

Required

Lets us recognize you while you're signed in, so you don't have to log in on every page. It goes away the moment you sign out or close your browser.

Can't be switched off — the site can't keep you signed in without it.

Form safety token

Required

Protects you from a sneaky kind of attack where another website tries to submit forms on your behalf without your knowledge. It only exists for the lifetime of your active session.

Can't be switched off — forms wouldn't be safe without it.

Your cookie choice

Optional

Records whether you've accepted or declined cookies on this site, so we don't have to ask again every visit. Kept for 12 months.

What we don't set

You may be used to a long list of advertising, analytics, and social-media cookies on most sites. We don't set any of those. Specifically:

If that ever changes, this page will too — and a new opt-out will appear above before any new cookie gets set.

Want to clear them yourself?

You can wipe cookies any time through your browser's settings. Heads up: clearing the signed-in session cookie will sign you out, and clearing the form safety token may make your next form submission fail until you refresh the page.
